Five weeks after his death, "The Boy" is being screened to audiences in Tel Aviv as a tribute to Winner. Atary and Winner, who had studied together in film school, were an artistic power couple in Kfar Aza, one of a number of small Israeli communities built along the border with Gaza. In the movie, both Winner and Atary, who was pregnant at the time, act as the leads, and the supporting cast were all friends and family from Kfar Aza. Many of the cast members were also killed in the Gaza militant rampage on Oct. 7.

More than 1,200 people in Israel died, most of them in the Hamas attack, and about 240 hostages were taken from Israel into Gaza by Palestinian militants. Chris Christie, the former governor of New Jersey who is challenging Donald J. Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, said Mr. Trump’s rhetoric of intolerance — as evident today as it was during his presidency — had fueled the surge of bigotry confronting Jews and Muslims after Hamas’s brutal Oct. 7 attack on Israel and the fierce Israeli response in Gaza. They're looking for human remains, hoping to identify victims still missing a month on from the deadly Hamas attack. Be'eri is one of the communities hardest hit by the Hamas gunmen who burst through the Israel-Gaza border on Oct. 7, killing around 1,400 people and taking more than 240 hostage, according to Israeli tallies. Twisted, mangled cars still line the paths of the kibbutz, some houses stand gutted by fire, others are pierced by bullets. So far they have helped identify 10 victims, they say, leaving an estimated 25 people still unaccounted for.

Hamas gunmen took her and their three children into Gaza in their deadly assault on Israeli villages on Oct 7. His family was abducted from Kfar Aza, a kibbutz around 3 km (2 miles) from Gaza. All he can do now, Brodutch says, is tell his family's story, wherever he can, to whomever he can. So, now I've got nothing," he said while children ran around the hotel garden of Shefayim, an Israeli kibbutz which is hosting many survivors, including Brodutch.

Hundreds of influential Israeli economists are warning the government that it must make big economic changes quickly, including re-opening the country's budget, as the war with Hamas approaches its fourth week. The letter released Monday by the Israeli Economists' Forum calls on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich "to wake up and start responding to the tough challenges that the Israeli economy faces." More than 200,000 Israelis, mostly from the south, have been forced to relocate due to the war with Hamas. In turn, the economists want Israel to make an unprecedented move to reopen the 2024 budget, which was passed in May, after a bitter political fight. It started after the deadliest terrorist attack in Israel's history Oct. 7, when Hamas militants tore through Israel's southern barrier killing 1,400 people and taking more than 200 hostages.
